Dear friends,

Chee Soon Juan's wife and three children visited him at the remand prison this afternoon (Sat, 18 March). This will be the only visit until his release on 24 March.

During this short visit, he had asked Mrs. Chee to convey this message to you:

"I am doing fine. My spirits are up and I have you to thank for this. There are many individuals and organizations whom I would like to send my personal thanks but am unable to do so from here and through this very brief visit.

The Amnesty International, the ICJ, Human Rights First, SEAPPA are among the many organizations that have lent their invaluable help.

I am grateful to the diplomatic community in Asia, Australia, Europe and the US for all that they have done. It is precisely due to the involvement of and attention from the international community that has deterred the Singapore government from wielding its usual unbridled power.

The Singapore authorities are keenly aware that the world is watching them and that it is due to this that they cannot continue to use such oppressive and unjust measures to silence democracy advocates and dissenting voices.

I also thank friends and supporters from Singapore and beyond. Thank you for your thoughts, prayers, well-wishes and tireless efforts."

I really admire his humility, his passion and determination for democracy, and the dignity of his courage to stand up and speak up even in such periods of his life.

We should keep him in prayer, and hope more people in Singapore will open their eyes to the political monopoly which the PAP has built up and start talking about socio-political issues that happen around us. I have a book written by him, titled the 'Power Of Courage' and if you're interested to read it by all means leave me a message in my guestbook or mail me.

Don't be like an Epsilon-minus semi-moron(as described in Brave New World) constructed through the evils of social engineering - Think for yourself. Life is larger than what it seems to be, you know? Rather than just studying and thinking of securing careers that make you most $$. Money-making just introduces stability in life - but it probably is senseless if you've lost the enthusiasms of thinking and speaking up; i mean if you've lost it all in your friendships and relationships, or your own personal rights, your faith and religion, your beliefs in the many different aspects of life - does money matter more than losing it all? Money-making introduces a kind of stability that is self-centered and fosters cynicism that in this world we can hope to live with less of it as the Corporations are already practicing that to the very brink of their profession.


What happened to simplicity? What happened to just taking a walk and appreciating things around you - trees and butterflies, mm counting the stars up in the sky, lying down on a big green grass patch eyes fixed on the moon ears struck with hearing the crickets rhyme, listening to the tears of raindrops falling sitting under the shelter of a bus-stop, mm how about having a drink with a friend or a group, playing a game of bluff or soccer, or having some appreciation for the arts of life - going to a show, or expressing oneself in music we enjoy like indie or punkrock or whatever suits you, reading books and literature that brings out the abstract imagination of themes and issues around the world to explore the ambiguities and uncertainties of life. Materialism reverts all that joy you find in simplicity into a senseless void, you know? Like as if all that counterparts of materialism becomes subjected to unimportance or is looked upon as irrelevant or something. Humanity is so much larger than that boy.

Capitalism is the new life, succumb or resist?

(It sounds like as if i'm asking you to turn anarchist or beg on the street - sorry i wasn't intending on both either but i was just wondering if money in this capitalist society determines everything in life?)

I notice when i write, i tend to get out of point. Because i think too much but then again we're only human. its not like as if George Bush gave much thought when he was all keen on getting his "Liberation of Iraq" war done for the benefit of his people back home - solving the unemployment, signing the energy agreements, profiteering the MNCs that in return back him up - I guess he never reflected on the consequences of the the significance of the loss of lives and humanity both through the innocence of Iraqis and the young hope-embracing American troops, and the upholding resistance towards foreign intervention as seen through suicide-bombing and violent protests in Iraq right now, and the growing globalization of terrorism and hate for Americanism sprawling up through the many hidden communities habiting all over Middle-East. Indeed, we live in a Mad World.

Thanks to people like Dr. Chee for reminding us that we still have something to fight for.
